Novel The Hammock and the Hummingbirds

Author Karine Baridon

Don’t read into my novel. Live your own.

I was an art director, then a trainer and a therapist.
I wrote communication materials and courses, and I published popular-science articles on neuroscience with the publisher Raabe.

Today, I’ve decided to give away my first novel, The Hammock and the Hummingbirds, and I’ve built a website full of free resources, to make people want to read and create.
My wish is to turn the reader into a creator.

On my website, everything is a gift.
You come to read, you come back to create.

Readers can read the novel, listen to it, and even sing it!
They can play games, take on challenges, use practical guides,
publish their own creations in a gallery, and join the creators’ directory, to show their work and be contacted.

Creating is universal: let our creativity shine.

A book that wanted to live!

This is a book that refuses to die on the last page.

The novel invites the reader to create, and the website makes it happen.
The website carries the novel further: it brings its ideas to life.

It wanted to be read. So I opened up the novel for free.
It wanted to be heard. So I made the audios and the songs.
It wanted to be explored. So I created the characters, the places, the dictionary, the running threads, the map, the games.
It wanted to be useful. So I turned some of the novel’s ideas into guides and resources.
It wanted to be passed on. So I created resources for teachers.
It wanted to be played. So I created the challenges.
It wanted to be transformed. So I gave readers tools to write, draw, compose, film, translate.
It wanted to meet other creators. So I created the gallery and the directory.

And above all: it wanted the reader not to stay just a reader. So I tell them: your turn.

READ · LIVE · CREATE

READ the novel.
LIVE the world, the characters, the games, the words, the music, the guides.
CREATE the challenges, the tools, the adaptations, the gallery.

Here, everything is a gift, and every road leads to the novel.

Why give the novel away?

Because I want the story to travel. To be read in a hammock. Listened to in the car. Discovered in class. Shared between friends. Hijacked by a creator. And to keep going after the last page.

A book is never as alive as when it starts to belong to its readers’ imagination.
