Who is she?
The Viking’s mother
Sovereign of deep waters and dignified silences. A past master of manipulation to win her place in the sun: with her siren’s voice, she hypnotised Bjornulf.
What makes her memorable
Her gift She’s a Völva: the prophetess who reads runes and intentions. She has her own little internal alarm, she gets advance warning. But it only rings for her: nobody else is any the wiser.
Bonus
Her speciality, lutefisk
The Viking — My mother comes from the Kingdom of the Upside-Down Seas. She loves anything that’s been soaked in brine, fat or ammonia, that’s how we preserve the catch back home. Her speciality is lutefisk, dried cod soaked in caustic soda, with buttered potatoes, to make you forget its jelly texture.
